My Camera Collection

Fun fact: the way I got into photography in the first place was actually through collecting vintage cameras. I went to college in Merced, California, and one of my favorite weekend activities was to go to garage sales. One day before work, I stopped by a garage sale and found this beautiful Mamiya C220 medium format film camera and I fell in love. After finding it in a box with a few other random items, I asked the woman who was running the garage sale how much she wanted for it. She started to reconsider whether she wanted to sell it at all; it was her late husband's and she thought maybe she would keep it after all to put on display. I'm glad she let me buy it off of her, because it sparked the rest of my love of cameras and photography. Now, I have a collection of about 40 cameras ranging from simple box cameras from the late 1800s to polaroids from the '80s and '90s.

I've gotten quite a few as gifts since people know now how much I enjoy them, but also purchased a lot from garage sales and thrift stores. I had been considering doing a little photoshoot with them for a while since my apartment is covered with them, and I love the way they look so much - and I finally put it together this past weekend. I think I will probably end up taking more photos of them; partially because I love how these ones turned out so much, partially because I still have so many that weren't included in this shoot, and partially because it's so easy to set this type of thing up now that I have a light box (one of my best friends got it for my birthday, and I finally had a good reason to whip it out!).
