Even though this wedding was when my business was (officially) still very new, I don't think I've worked a reception with this level of energy since! M+M seemed like they were more on the introverted side during their engagement session at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens, but when their wedding day came around, their wild sides really came out — and I loved it!!
This beautiful couple had their wedding at the Fairview in Oakland, California, and they did a phenomenal job of planning every little detail. The details, the favors, the outfits, and locations were all so seamless and thoughtful. This was also my first time working with a second shooter after having worked as a second shooter a dozen times. The couple knew they wanted extra coverage for getting ready photos, bridal party portraits, and their first look; and having that extra perspective for their ceremony and reception definitely paid off!
There were a few major reasons that this wedding remains one of my favorites:
My number one moment was probably when the bride started her processional — one thing I hear from a lot of my couples is they're worried that if they do a first look earlier in the day, they won't get a big reaction when walking down the aisle. This groom was the perfect example of how that's not always the case! Despite an adorable first look that morning, the groom was tearing up as he watched his bride walk towards him.
The couple wrote their own vows for their ceremony, and even though the bride didn't speak Cantonese, she had meticulously practiced so that she could recite them in her husband's family's native language.
The venue offered so many beautiful locations for photos: the ceremony spot with the cute little gazebo, the hills nearby with a perfect sunset view, and the reception area with the big beautiful windows to let all the natural light in!
But the main event was definitely the reception! I love when you can tell the guests are having a great time at the wedding, and there was never a doubt in my mind that everyone was having a blast! The father of the bride also ended up being kind of a celebrity after his hilarious but heartfelt speech and his killer dance moves.
I'm also happy that I've kept in touch with this couple, even booking two other weddings based on their referrals. Definitely a top-notch experience all around.
