After working with J + F for their engagement photos in Golden Gate Park, I knew I'd have a great time working with them for their big day! Their wedding was on the simpler side, but they really made their budget work for them by finding a venue surrounded by beautiful nature and bringing in their friends' talents to beautify it even more. This wedding was held at the San Mateo Garden Center, which is located right next to a public park in San Mateo, California. Between the redwoods, the gazebo, and the pond surrounding it, it was easy to make the exterior photos shine. In fact, the lighting during family portraits was so stunning that those ended up being some of my favorite photos.
A bridesmaid provided all of the florals as part of her own small business, and the bride's mother essentially acted as their wedding planner. The bride opted for an outfit change for the reception (which is a trend I very much enjoy), but rather than spending thousands on a second gown, she was actually able to repurpose her old senior prom dress!
One important lesson I learned from photographing this wedding, however, was the importance of a day-of coordinator! While everything was still done beautifully and the day generally went smoothly, having someone who is not a family member and not in the wedding party helps to relieve so much stress and helps to keep everyone more in order. While some couples see it as just another expense on an already very expensive day, I think that the weight it takes off of everyone's shoulders is well worth it so that everyone can enjoy the day to the fullest!
